CFD analyses for the development of an innovative latent thermal energy storage for food transportation

The transportation of perishable products is a crucial activity that must be carefully managed along the cold chain. refrigerated transport aims at ensuring suitable conditions by maintaining desired temperature level in compartment. Moreover, carriage fresh foodstuffs calls for additional precautions due to intrinsic metabolic foods which causes them highly sensitive. About 30% perishes on route loss values. Recently, scientists have been focusing their efforts development innovative solutions, ensure proper distribution and more environmental-friendly cost-effective way. Hence, this work, novel concept Latent Thermal Energy Storage (LTES) system consisting an insulation layer poly-urethane foam wrapping second one Phase Change Material (PCM) proposed. In particular, thermal performance investigated running numerical CFD analyses Ansys Fluent. effect different product loads (25%-50%-75%) studied. Besides, contributions heat respiration diverse food pre-cooling temperatures are also analysed. For long-distance no door openings nor infiltrations considered.
